Native to the Mojave Desert but performing surprisingly well in the Bay Area, Berberis fremontii is much like Nevin's barberry. Rigidly arching stems densely clothed in wider, pointy, silver gray leaflets. Heavy blooming with clear yellow flowers followed by heavy fruiting with bright orange fruit, looking like clusters of miniature ripe apricots. 8 feet X 8 feet OR MORE! For sunny well drained locations. Great companion to matilija poppy and Salvia clevelandii. Very drought tolerant, best with occasional to infrequent water. Probably somewhat deer resistant.
