Chondropetalum tectorum
Cape rush

A striking plant native to South Africa where it occurs in seasonally wet habitats. Forms dense clumps of dark green leafless stems with brown papery bracts at stem joints. 3 - 4 ft. tall. Narrow clusters of dark brown flowers appear late in the season on the tips of the gracefully arching stems. Loves water but will tolerate dryish conditions in sun to light shade. A dazzling accent plant that provides interesting form and movement to the garden. Fabulous in containers too. Deer resistant.
