California bay tree

Native evergreen tree with pungent smelling foliage. Varies from a huge gumdrop-shaped shrub to tall tree, depending on the site. Grows fastest with good soil and ample water, but tolerates drought. Good for screening, background planting or tall hedges. Bay flowers feed hummingbirds.
