We are still busy putting out new crops. Check our latest inventory for current availability.
Some highlights include full and beautiful one gallon fuchsia-flowered gooseberry. An early blooming shrub with arching, spiny branches with dangling red tubular flowers adored by hummingbirds. Best with light shade, it is quite drought tolerant once established.
We have some sturdy woodland ground covers looking particularly good. The slim false-solomon’s-seal is blooming now in coastal forests, and we have some beautiful, full, one gallons of this vigorous ground cover. Spreading by rhizomes to form lush colonies 1 ft. - 18 inches tall. White star-shaped flowers top the handsome foliage now through early summer. Excellent shade perennial for the woodland, creek side or north exposure. Best with some summer water. Dry conditions leads to early dormancy. Competes well with tree roots.
Another spreading perennial for the shade garden is western bleeding heart. Forming a lacy ground cover topped with pink heart shaped flowers in the spring. Perfectly adapted to our climate, western bleeding heart enjoys moist shady conditions where it will spread rapidly. Goes dormant with drought, returning with the rains. Hummingbirds and bumblebees work the flowers and deer don’t eat it. Available in four inch pots.
Many of our ferns are still in production, but available now are nice, full, one gallon giant chain ferns. Our largest native fern, fronds can reach 3-6 foot tall in favorable conditions. Beautiful addition to a woodland planting or north side of a building.
Stream orchid is an easy to grow native orchid with attractive foliage and interesting flowers. This rhizomatous herbaceous perennial is useful in the garden and makes a wonderful container plant too. We carry the species with it’s light green foliage and a cultivar called ’Serpentine Night’, which emerges with deep purple leaves. We have large crops of both and are offering them at 50% off while supplies last.
For dry, sunny areas, many of the popular flowering native perennials are now becoming available. California fuchsias are available now as are the popular monkey flowers. The reliable Penstemon ‘Margareta BOP’ is available in four inch pots. Our own selection of coyote mint, Monardella villosa ‘Russian River' is quickly becoming a favorite and is now available in four inch pots. Sweetly fragrant leaves and lavender flower heads are a favorite of bees and butterflies. We are pleased to see it featured in the gardening magazine, Fine Gardening, as one of their regional picks for best fragrant perennials.
